CHiPs / News / Social Media

We were lucky enough to have Vincent D’Onofrio (Jurassic Park, Marvel’s Daredevil, Law & Order, Full Metal Jacket) make an appearance at the museum over the weekend. He’s doing some training at Motorcycle Training Solutions (located on our lower level) for his upcoming role in the movie CHiPs where he will be cast as the villain. ChiPs will also feature Dax Shepard taking on the role of Officer Jonathan “Jon” Baker, while Michael Peña is assuming the much more popular character of Officer Francis (“Frank”) Llewellyn “Ponch” Poncherello. The film has been described as a buddy cop action comedy. And there will be a heavy emphasis on the word action. Not only is Dax Shepard directing and starring in the movie, he also wrote the script.

tales-from-beyond-the-paleDo you enjoy being scared by the sound of things going bump, crash, and “I’m coming to kill you!” in the middle of the night?

Then we bring some frightfully good news. Horror-loving filmmakers Glenn McQuaid (I Sell the Dead) and Larry Fessenden (Wendigo) have announced that the third season of their creepy audio drama series, Tales from Beyond the Pale, is being released Nov. 27.

The 10-episode season will feature tales written by McQuaid, Fessenden, and Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train), among others. Meanwhile, the impressive cast list includes Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd, Vincent D’Onofrio, Nick Damici, James LeGros, Sean Young, and Pat Healy.

The new season also features a Re-Animator reunion with director Stuart Gordon, actress Barbara Crampton, writer Dennis Paoli, and composer Richard Band returning to H.P. Lovecraft territory with an adaptation of the famous horror writer’s short story, The Hound.

Tales from Beyond the Pale: Season 3 will be released with a hardcover book — illustrated by renowned poster artist Graham Humphreys — and on a USB drive that will also feature an introductory film by Beck Underwood. The set is available for pre-order at the official Tales from Beyond the Pale website.

“I can’t wait to get this new collection of Tales… out to hungry ears,” said McQuaid, in a statement. “After five years on the project, the audio format is opening up to us in new ways and these ten Tales are a wonderful edition of our crazy canon of stories.”

Emerald City / News

NBC’s hefty new 10-part take on the Wizard of Oz story, Emerald City, is set to film in Croatia, Hungary and Spain.

The dark fantasy drama comes from Universal Television and is exec produced by Shaun Cassidy and showrunner David Schulner.

It centres on the eponymous wizard, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, a charismatic scientist and leader who inspires both fear and respect in a mystical kingdom of witches, warriors and magic.

Tarsem Singh directs the ten-episode, straight-to-series order, from scripts by David Schulner, Matthew Arnold and Joelle Garfinkel. An international crew is assembling on this one, which also stars Adria Arjona (True Detective) as Dorothy.

Hungary has hosted many high-profile productions, with recent coups including Ridley Scott’s The Martian and epic historical TV drama The Last Kingdom. Spain is currently revelling in once again playing host to the behemoth Game of Thrones, an honour which has also fallen to Croatia, previously home to US TV series The Dig.

Emerald City / News / Projects

If you’re paying attention to that man behind the curtain, you’ll notice it’s Vincent D’Onofrio.

The Marvel’s Daredevil and Law & Order: Criminal Intent vet has been cast as the Wizard of Oz in Emerald City, NBC’s upcoming 10-episode adaptation blending elements from author L. Frank Baum’s classic 14-novel collection.

D’Onofrio’s Wizard is described as “the enigmatic leader of Emerald City. A man of science in a world of magic, he rules through inspiration, fear and a tenuous accord with the grand witches.”

The logline for the drama is as follows: “Swept up into the eye of a tornado, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale is transported to another world — a mystical land in great peril, where an all-powerful Wizard has outlawed magic and rules over the many kingdoms. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before — where lethal warriors roam, wicked witches plot in the shadows and a young girl from Kansas becomes the headstrong hero who holds the fate of their world in her hands.”

The Peacock net gave Emerald City a 10-episode, straight-to-series order back in April, a reversal of fortune for a project it had killed off back in April 2014. The reimagining found David Schulner (The Event) taking over showrunner reins from original writer EP/writer Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Shaun Cassidy (American Gothic, Invasion) will serve as executive producer alongside Schulner.

Over the summer, True Detective Season 2 star Adria Arjona landed the lead role of Dorothy. Tarsem, who worked with D’Onofrio on The Cell, is set to direct.
